The Chairman in this compelling story is Dr. John Garang de Mabior, the late leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and Army, and the Narrator is Dr. Francis Mading Deng.The two developed a friendship grounded in their shared passion about the challenges facing their people in then Sudan, now in the independent Republic of South Sudan. The fictional narrator was recovering from surgery, when a strong pain-killing drug triggered hallucination that ushered in the recollections narrated in this factionalized documentation of real experiences.
About the Author
Francis Mading Deng, currently South Sudan’s Roving Ambassador, was the country's first Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He also served as the Secretary-General's Special Advisor on the Prevention of Genocide, at the level of Under-Secretary-General, and as Representative of the Secretary-General on Internally Displaced Persons at the level of Assistant Secretary-General. He was Sudan's Ambassador to Canada, the Nordic Countries and the United States and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. He also held a series of positions in leading think tanks and universities in the United States. Dr. Deng graduated with an LL. B (honors) from Khartoum University and holds an LL.M and a JSD from Yale University Law School. He has authored and edited over thirty books in a wide variety of fields and has written two novels.
