A scholarly, accessible study of fugitive slaves who fled to Florida and formed alliances with native peoples, mostly Seminoles. Known as Black Seminoles, these independent-minded people had a profound effect on the politics of Spain, Britain, and the United States, especially from 1693 to 1845.
