ይህ መፅሀፍ ለፊዚክስ ሂሳባዊ ዝግጅት በሚል በኣዲስ ኣበባ ዩኒቨርስቲ ፕረስ የታተመው የጥራዝ ፩ ተከታይ በመሆን፣ ለሳይንስ እና ምህንድስና ትምህርት ኣገልግሎት ተጨማሪ ሂሳባዊ ፅንስ-ሃሳቦችን ይሰጣል። ስለሆነም፣ በቅድሚያ ኣጭር ኣልጀብራዊ (Algebraic) እና ስነ-ዘዌያዊ (Trigonometric) ክለሳ ከሰጠ በሁዋላ፣ ስለ”ተግባር” (Function) በሰፊው ያብራራል። ቀጥሎም፣ ዋና የስነ-ስሌት መሰረት በሆነው ለከት (Limit)፣ ስነ-ቅርፅ (Geometry) እና የቀጥተኛ መስመር ዝንባሌ (Slope) በመጠቀም የ”ለውጥ ቅልጥፍና” (Rate of Change)እና ለማንኛውም የተግባር ዝብ (Curve) ዝንባሌ የሚያገለግለውን በስነ-ስሌት ድናን (Derivative) በመባል የሚታወቀውን ያብራራል። የድናን ኣጠቃቀም እና ፋይዳን በተለያዩ የትምህርት ቅርንጫፎች ያሳያል። ለዚህም፣ ከሁለት መቶ ሃምሳ በላይ የሆኑ ምሳሌዎች ከጥቅል ፍቺዎቻችው ጋር በፅሁፉ ተካተዋል።

መፅሃፉን ለመፃፍ ብዙ ቃላትን መተርጎም ኣስፈልጓል። በተቻለን መጠን ከቋንቋው በሚገኙ ቃላት ተጠቅመናል። እርግጥ ከተፀውኦ ስም የተገኙ (ለምሳሌ ኣልጀብራ) ወይም በኣማርኛ ስር የሰደዱ (ለምሳሌ ዜሮ) የመሳሰሉትን ቃላት ኣልተረጎምንም። የፅሁፉ ኣላማዎች (፩) ትምህርትን እና ተደራሽነቱን ለማስፋፋት፣ (፪) ባህልን እና ቋንቋውን ለማዳበር (፫) በሃገሪቱ የነበሩ ሳይንሳዊ እና ምህንድስና ክህለቶች እንዳይጠፉ ለማድረግ፣ (፬) ኣማርኛ ሂሳባዊም ሆነ ሳይንሳዊ ክህሎት የለውም የሚለውን የተሳሳተ ከፈን ለመግፈፍ እና (፭) ሌሎች ሂሳባዊም ሆነ ሳይንሳዊ ደራሲያንን በኣማርኛ እንዲፅፉ ለማበራታት ነው። ይህ ፅሁፍ በሚዘጋጅበት ጊዜ ብዙ ሂሳባዊ እና ሳይንሳዊ ቃላት ከጥንት ጀምሮ በኢትዮጵያ ከነበሩ ጥበቦች፣ ለምሳሌ፣ ከሸክላ፣ ከቀንድ፣ ከብር እና ወርቅ ኣንጥሮሽ፣ ከጦር (መከላከያ) ስልት፣ ከሃይማኖት ፅሁፍ፣ ከግብይይት፣ ከህፃናት ጨዋታ፣ ከኮከብ ቆጠራ፣ ከጥንቆላ እና ከስድብም ሳይቀር ተገኝተዋል። ለትርጉምም ኣገልግለዋል። “ከኣንጀት ካለቀሱ እንባ እይገድም” እንደሚባለው፣ ከተፈለገ ሳይንሳዊ ፅሁፍ በኣማርኛ መፃፍ ይቻላል። የሚያግደን የራሳችን ስንፈት ብቻ ነው!

As a follow up, this book (in Amharic) builds upon the mathematical-conceptual foundations for science and engineering laid down by Mathematical Preparations for Physics, published by Addis Ababa University Press. To this end, after brief reviews of Algebra and Trigonometry, it expands on the concept of functions. It then introduces the limit, the foundation of differential calculus. It introduces the concept of rate of change with the aid of limits, the slope of a straight line and simple geometry, from which it transitions to the slope of a generalized curve and introduces and expounds the major concept of the derivative. It demonstrates the application of the derivative in various disciplines by providing over two-hundred and fifty fully solved examples.

Writing this book required the translation of several words. The authors have tried, to extent possible, to draw from the Amharic language.  They have, however, preserved words derived from proper noun (such as Algebra) or words like “zero” that are already assimilated in Amharic.  Some of the objectives of the book are: (1) to expand education and its accessibility, (2) to nurture cultural and linguistic growth, (3) to preserve the Ethiopia’s long existing scientific and engineering skills, (4) to dispel the erroneous belief that Amharic lacks both mathematical and scientific capabilities, and (5) to encourage other authors to write Amharic textbooks.  In the preparation of this textbook, the authors have drawn from the rich and ancient technologies in existence since time immemorial. They have drawn from ancient crafts such as ceramics, horn lathing, silver and gold smith works, defense strategies, religious texts, business, children’s games, astrology and numerology, magic art, and even insults for possible source of technical and mathematical terms. As the Amharic saying goes “if genuinely sad, tears flow naturally”; if so desired, one can write mathematical and scientific books in Amharic. The only thing stopping us is our own weakness!

ዶክተር ባሕሩ ካሣሁን የቀዳማዊ ኃይለሥላሴ (ኣዲስ ኣበባ) ዩኒቨርሲቲ፣ ስቴት ዩኒቨርስቲ ኦፍ ኒው ዮርክ እና የኣሪዞና ስቴት ዩኒቨርሲቲ ምሩቅ ነው። በሐረር ራስ መኮንን ትምህርት ቤት፣ በኣዳማ (ናዝሬት) ኣፄ ገላውዲዮስ ትምህርት ቤት፣ በኣሜሪካ ኣሪዞና ስቴት ዩኒቨርሲቲ፣ ኬን ዩኒቨርሲቲ እና በቻይና ኬን ዌንጆ ዩኒቭርሲቲ ሂሳብ፣ ፊዚክስ እና የ”ምህንድስና ጥይቦ” (Engineering Mechanics) ኣስተምሯል። ከሃያ ኣመት በላይ “ቁጥራዊ ትንተና እና ስሌት ዘዴ” (Numerical Analysis and Computational Methods) በፍብረካ (Manufacturing) ስለሚሰጠው ፋይዳ እና ኣገልግሎት በተመራማሪነት በቤል ላቦራቶሪ ሰርቷል። ከምርመራውም ውጤት የሁለት “መብተ-ፈጠራ” (Patent) ባለቤት ሆኗል። በተጨማሪም፣ የ”መገናኛ ጭፍራ ግለታዊ ብገራ እና ቁጥጥር” (Communication Satellite Thermal Design and Control) ተቆጣጣሪ በመሆን ለኣራት ኣመት ኣገልግሏል። ከኣስራሶስት ኣመት በላይ በመምህርነት እና ከሃያ ኣመት በላይ በምህንድስና ተመራማሪነት ያካበተውን ክህሎት እና እውቀት በኣማርኛ ሊፅፍ እየተጋ ነው። ከትጋቱ ውጤቶች ኣንዱ በኣዲስ ኣበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ (፪ሺህ፬) የታተመው ለፊዚክስ ሂሳባዊ ዝግጅት ሲሆን፣ ይህ መፅሀፍ ደግሞ ሁለተኛው (ተከታዩ) ነው።
