Product Description

Drawing on decades of experience in academia and the activist world, Beyond our Current Boundaries: Peace Studies from Africa and the Global South sets forth a new Africa World Press/Red Sea Press series championing the distinct and growing field of African and Global South Peace Research and Studies. This intentionally interdisciplinary field, bringing together grassroots organizers, scholars, and students, is laid out by Matt Meyer - one of its pioneering thinkers. Peace Studies in Africa, as a field, might be new. But vital peacebuilding work has been central to life in the Motherland for millennia. Meyer's introductory primer helps chart the course of both, bringing concrete hope for a future of peace with justice. By building together Beyond Our Current Borders, with Uhuru and Ubuntu, we will surely develop a decolonial feminist pedagogy - and a better new world for us all!

--Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, South African MP and former National Parliament Speaker; Quaker United Nations Office Geneva ED (2021-2024)

Matt Meyer's decades of human rights advocacy and contributions to our work as academics and activists is legendary. Beyond Our Current Boundaries puts those perspectives in contemporary context, charting an exciting new Africa World Press Book Series.

--Silvia Federici, noted Italian author (Caliban and the Witch); leading theoretician of Marxism, feminism, women's history, and political philosophy

The world - at war, with genocidal policies and imperialisms raging - seems on the brink of ever-deepening crisis. Matt Meyer's Beyond Our Current Boundaries provides a much-needed decolonizing approach to both study and social change. This book, and the book series to follow, will be essential for rebuilding our 21st Century movements.
