MWALIMU J. SHUJAA, Ed.D., is the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education at Medgar Evers College (CUNY) in Brooklyn. He participated in the founding of two African-centered independent schools: the Afrikan People's Action School in Trenton, NJ in 1976, and Nile Valley Shule in Buffalo, NY in 1991. he was elected National Executive Officer of the Council of Independent Black Institutions in 1990. The author and co-author of more than a dozen scholarly articles and book chapters, Dr. Shujaa's research interests resolve around issues related tot he social and cultural tensions that impact on schooling and education.
