Tommy Traveler is a young African-American boy who wants to learn about his history. After looking for books on African-American history in his school library, Tommy visits the house of Dr. Gray who has a private library of books on the subject.

After reading about such pivotal historical figures such as Pheobe Fraunces, Aesop, and Crispus Attucks, Tommy falls asleep and dreams himself into the history about which he just learned. Youngsters will learn even as they are enthralled by Tommy's "time travels."

This educational yet fun-filled adventure introduces "black history with pride."
