ABOUT THE AUTHOR
MARIE UMEH specializes in Literature of the African World and is an associate professor of English at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. Formerly, she taught at Anmbra State College in Awka, Nigeria, where she was chairperson of the Department of English. Dr. Umeh edited Emerging Perspectives on Buchi Emecheta (AWP 1996) and is the author of numerous essays on Black women in literature and feminist theory.
